    Your Energy Advisor will suggest upgrade options based on your home’s specific conditions and goals. Below are common categories that often appear in EnerGuide reports, along with why they may be relevant.

    Insulation and Air Sealing

    Attic air sealing and insulation are often best done together — sealing gaps before adding insulation helps ensure the new insulation performs as expected and reduces the risk of moisture issues in the attic space.

    As a home becomes more airtight, how fresh air enters and exits changes. A tighter home may need thoughtful ventilation to manage indoor air quality and humidity.

    In homes with fuel-burning appliances, airtightness improvements can also affect how those appliances vent — your Energy Advisor (EA) can flag whether your setup warrants a ventilation or combustion safety review as part of the upgrade plan.

    Window and door replacement is a significant investment — and it typically delivers more comfort and draft reduction than energy bill savings on its own.

    For maximum energy impact, replacement is often most effective when combined with insulation and air sealing as part of a coordinated whole-home plan, rather than as a standalone upgrade.

    Heating and Cooling Systems (HVAC)

    Heat pump sizing, selection, and setup — sometimes called the three S factors — are all important for getting the performance you expect. Your pre-retrofit evaluation data, combined with a CSA F280 heat loss and heat gain calculation (see Benefits of Getting a Pre-retrofit EnerGuide Evaluation, CSA F280 and Mechanical Sizing), gives mechanical contractors the best foundation for sizing your system appropriately.

    If your home already has an HRV, ask your Energy Advisor (EA) to check whether it's set up and operating correctly as part of the evaluation walkthrough. A poorly maintained or incorrectly set HRV is one of the most common and easily addressed ventilation issues in Manitoba homes.
